Dorothy Stratten came into the world as Dorothy Hoogstratten in Vancouver. At the tender young age of 17, Dorothy was spotted in a Canadian Dairy Queen scooping up a double serving of ice cream to one primo sleaze bag, Paul Snider. Nine years her elder, Snider spotted the beautiful service girl’s face and figure and believed he could make a fortune off of her. He was right.
Dorothy Stratten's story was brief, glorious and tragic. Born in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. She grew up in a rough neighborhood in Vancouver, but kept out of trouble and went through the motions of school. While not a beauty as a child, nor early teen, Stratten came into her own out of high school and attracted the attention of Paul Snider, a promoter and wannabe star. He started dating her and after seeing an advertisement for Playboy's 25th Anniversary Playmate search in 1978, convinced her to pose for photos. Playboy saw the potential in Stratten and flew her out to Los Angeles, where she became a candidate. Although she lost out to Candy Loving, Stratten was made a Playmate in the August, 1979 issue of Playboy. Soon after, she was pressured into marrying Snider, who had a Svengali-like influence on her. After her centerfold came out, Stratten found work in a few movies, notably Americathon and Skatetown, USA., as well as being the object of Richard Dawson's affection in an ABC-TV special shot at the Playboy mansion. Clearly, her star was on the rise. In 1980, it was revealed that Stratten would be tabbed as the Playmate of the Year by Playboy publisher and founder Hugh Hefner. While this was one of the crowning achievements of her career, things were not going well in her marriage to Snider. He bothered her on the set of the movie Galaxina and when Snider found out she was developing more than a friendly relationship with director Peter Bogdonavich, Snider grew increasingly frustrated. After a separation, Snider bought a gun and talked Stratten into coming to the apartment they used to share in West Los Angeles. Snider tied her up, sexually assaulted her and put the gun (a shotgun) next to her face and pulled the trigger. Snider then turned the gun on himself to complete the murder-suicide. Since her death, Stratten has become something of a minor cult fixture, and has had two (one a television) movies a song and a couple of books written about her. The last movie she was in, "They All Laughed, " was released after her death.

She forged her mother's signature on the model release when she sent her nude pictures to Playboy.
Canadian rocker Bryan Adams wrote a song dedicated to Dorothy: the poignant "The Best Was Yet to Come." It appears on his 1983 album "Cuts Like a Knife."

Alain Delon biography: The magnetic Alain Delon was among the most prominent French actors of the postwar era; an exotically handsome performer, he sprung from offscreen rumor and scandal to emerge as a uniquely enigmatic and sinister talent. Born November 8, 1935 in Sceaux, France, Delon spent his formative years primarily in the care of foster parents. He later was sent away to a series of boarding schools, and at the age of 17 he joined the marines, serving as a parachutist in Indo-China. Upon his discharge, Delon returned to Marseilles and struck up a friendship with aspiring actor Jean-Claude Brialy, who invited him to attend the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. There Delon's delicate good looks won him a number of movie offers, including a rumored seven-year deal with David O. Selznick. In the end, he accepted a small role in the Edwige Feuillere film Quand la Femme S'en Mele, followed by an appearance in 1957's Sois Belle Et Tais-Toi.
Delon's first lead role in a picture came opposite Romy Schneider, to whom he was later briefly engaged, in 1958's Christine. A handful of other supporting turns followed before he won the lead in Rene Clement's stylish 1960 thriller Plein Soleil, an international hit which cast him as a murderous American bisexual travelling abroad. In 1960 he appeared in Luchino Visconti's Rocco e i Suoi Fratelli. Under Visconti, he also reunited with Schneider on stage in a production of 'Tis Pity She's a Whore. Next teaming again with Clement, Delon appeared in 1961's Che Gioia Vivere, followed by an appearance with Brigitte Bardot in Les Amours Celebres.
Despite mixed critical regard for his work, Delon was a favorite among many of the era's most prominent filmmakers, and in 1962 he starred in Michelangelo Antonioni's brilliant L'Eclisse. Julien Duvivier's Le Diable et les Dix Commandments followed, as did a turn in Visconti's 1963 masterpiece Il Gattopardo. These many high-profile projects boosted Delon to international prominence, and his next project, 1963's Melodie En Sous-Sol, was a big-budget gangster tale co-starring Jean Gabin. With 1964's Les Felins, he turned to producing as well as performing, later establishing his own company, Adel Productions. With 1966's The Lost Command Delon made his Hollywood debut, followed by Once a Thief, Texas Across the River and Yellow Rolls-Royce. By 1967, however, he was back in France, appearing alongside wife Nathalie Delon in Jean-Pierre Melville's cult classic Le Samourai -- a role which defined the self-absorbed loner persona he continued to develop over subsequent performances -- and with Marianne Faithfull in The Girl on a Motorcycle a year later.
In 1969 Delon and his wife found themselves at the center of a massive scandal when their bodyguard was found shot to death, his body left in a garbage dump. The subsequent investigation into his killing threatened to implicate many of France's most prominent celebrities and politicians in a sordid web of murder, drugs and sex. Many predicted the demise of Delon's career, but he spun the tabloid headlines to his favor. In the eyes of many filmgoers, his myriad portrayals of gangsters, killers and sexual deviants suddenly took on new reality in light of the similar exploits he experienced in his off-screen life, and a notorious television interview in which he admitted to past homosexual liaisons -- as well as many other seamy adventures -- tantalized audiences even more. In the wake of the controversy, Delon starred in four consecutive gangster films -- Jean Herman's Jeff, Henri Verneuil's Le Clan des Siciliens, Jacques Deray's Borsalino (with Jean-Paul Belmondo) and Melville's Le Cercle Rouge -- all them hugely successful with European audiences; Hollywood fame continued to elude him, however, and English-language efforts like 1973's Scorpio failed to attract audiences.
Nevertheless, Delon spent much of the 1970s as France's biggest star. Monsieur Klein(1976), directed by Joseph Losey, won a Cesar as the year's best picture, and thrillers like 1977's Comme Un Boomerang and Le Gang continued to perform extremely well at the box office. In 1979 he again tried to penetrate the American market in the star-studded Airport '79: Concord, but, as before, he returned home without success. In 1981 Delon turned to directing with Pour la Peau d'un Flic, which he followed two years later with Le Battant. In 1984 he co-starred in Volker Schlöndorff's Un Amour de Swann, the most prestigious project he had graced in well over a decade. That same year he garnered a Cesar for his work in Notre Histoire, and in 1985 Parole de Flic became another major hit. Following miserable reviews and receipts for 1986's Le Passage, however, Delon's prolific shooting schedule began to taper off, and he selected projects with greater discretion. Among those chosen was 1990's Nouvelle Vague, which paired him for the first time with director Jean-Luc Godard. During the 1990s his profile continued to recede from the screen as he focused on various business ventures, and he did not reappear before the camera prior to 1994's L' Ours en Peluche. After a cameo in Agnes Varda's all-star 1995 production Les Cent et une Nuits de Simon Cinema, he next resurfaced in 1997's Le Jour et la Nuit.

"Although best known as a pop singer, Dalida also appeared in a dozen movies during an entertainment career lasting just over 30 years. Born Yolande Christina Giglioti in Cairo, Egypt, in 1933, she won the title of Miss Egypt in 1954, which included a role in a movie as part of the prize. She made her first credited screen appearance in the Egyptian-made feature Sigarah Wa Kas, directed by Niazi Mostafa. At that time, Giglioti started using the stage name Delila, owing to a resemblance between her and Hedy Lamarr in the role of Delilah in the Hollywood epic Samson and Delilah. Having quickly risen as far as she could in the Egyptian film industry, she went to Paris in hopes of expanding her movie career and got a role in the feature Le Masque de Toutankhamon, directed by Marco De Gastyne. She also altered the spelling of her stage name to Dalida and it stuck. She was discovered by Bruno Coquatrix, a producer at the Olympia Theater, radio producer Lucien Morisse, and record company owner Eddie Barclay, and was transformed over the next year into a singing star — her second single, "Bambino", sold over a million copies in France and throughout Europe during 1956.
Dalida continued appearing in movies through the late '50s and early '60s, playing straight acting roles in vehicles ranging from the spy thriller Rapt Aux Deuxieme Bureau (1958) to frothy sex comedies such as Menage Italian Style (1965). Most of these were not released in America (or were given only the most limited distribution), but were major successes in Europe. Although music was the major focus of her career from the early '60s onward, she never entirely gave up movies and, in 1986, the year before her death, she returned to her native Egypt to make a film, The Sixth Day, with director Youssef Chahine, an old friend from her early career, in which she gave what critics felt was a superb performance. Dalida was a larger-than-life presence in French and European popular culture. Vocally, she was somewhere between Petula Clark and Astrud Gilberto, but her personal life was closer to that of Judy Garland, marred by divorce, the suicide of one lover and also of her ex-husband. In 1967, she was hospitalized following a suicide attempt. Twenty years later, while seemingly in the midst of another comeback, she took her own life with an overdose of barbiturates"

It's about a poor young girl ("Cinderella" style), with whom a rich prince falls in love. As she bakes him a cake (on his demand), she puts her ring in it, so he'll know she likes him too. Then, she asks him for three dresses, one for summer time, one for autumn, and one for winter (if I remember correctly). Then, she asks him a final gift; the skin of the donkey who poohs coins and ensures the land's survival. The whole point of the movie is to find out whether or not he will win her and therefore bring his land to financial ruin. Brilliant story. When I was a kid, I thought it was a sequel to "Cinderella" or "Sleeping Beauty", and, indeed, that's what it feels like."The fairy godmother (Delphine Seyrig) tries to save the girl from this incestuous fate by telling her to make impossible demands for her wedding gifts. One such demand is for the skin of a magic donkey which deposits valuable jewels in its compost heaps."

Angela (Laura Antonelli) is widowed and one day, as she gazes out her window, she is stirred by the sight of a dashing blond foreigner (Jason Connery, son of Sean). She eventually sends her ladies' maid to speak to him as a go-between, while the ladies' maid of the married woman next door is on the same errand. It seems the foreigner is more interested in Angela's neighbor but has no compunction about making love to both women. The dashing young man is soon literally dashing from one woman to the next in a mixed-up confusion, not wanting to give himself away as romancing two women instead of one. Meanwhile, the ladies' maids (and others) enter into the act, while the married woman's husband is due home at any time.
